Update: March 2025
I said at the start of the year that I was planning to post updates about my assorted projects more regularly. Since it’s been a little while since then and a lot has been happening, now seems like a good time to stick to my word and let you know what’s been going on with things on my end.
Site Update
Let’s start with the most obvious one first. This website is going through some changes. This is a normal thing as a website grows and develops and things are going to be confusing for a while, but we’ll get through it.
Jokes aside though, things really might look a little bit hectic for a bit. While the new update means things are looking a lot nicer, it’s also a lot more customised than before and there’s been more going on in the back end. A lot of stuff has had to be shuffled around or even, in some cases, remade.
Most of that work is done now, but I’m still in the process of getting everything back in the correct order - literally. So I just wanted to say thank you for bearing with me while things are being shifted around and for tolerating old content popping to the forefront in places. Everything will be in its rightful place soon.
It’s worth it for this sleek new look, I’d say.
Marble
Marble is a direct spin-off of Domino, my first novel, following a different group of characters going through the aftermath of the same attack as Hector and Eli did. I’ve been talking about it for a while, but I have good news on that front! The editing process for Marble is pretty much finished now. That means I just need to finalise some things on my end and make sure the proof comes out okay. After that, the book will be ready for release.
I’m still not quite ready to give you a hard release date but, I’m hoping that you will be able to get your hands on Marble by the end of April.
To get you excited though, here’s a little information: Marble follows the trio of Emina (17), Saba (11) and Arben (6) in the days and weeks after the nuclear bomb is detonated in Kudin. They will have to overcome not just their own personal flaws and baggage, but also survive in a city gone to ruin if they want to come out of the tragedy of Kudin alive. While still set during the same events as Domino, and touching upon some of the same themes in places, Marble is also a very different journey in a lot of ways and approaches things from a different angle. It’s also twice as long as its predecessor, so there’s that.
Keep an eye out for it!
Other Kudin Content
Speaking of Domino, the serialised audio version (narrated by Jon Coenen, my usual co-host on SAB) is live. You can find the first episode, which contains the book’s prologue and first chapter, both here as well as on my YouTube. A new instalment should go up every month. The complete audio book isn’t available yet, but work on it is continuing. You should be able to purchase it before the serialised version is complete.
A new edition of the text version of Domino (both the ebook and physical copies), with a fancy new cover to match Marble, is also set to become available at the same time as Marble releases.
Epilogue
Speaking of stories you can read or listen to, Epilogue is also out now! Epilogue is a collection of short stories set during the end of the world and exploring the final moments of various characters - their last thoughts, feelings and actions. Each season is set in a different location, with each chapter following a different character. The first season is set on a plane travelling from Brisbane to Hobart, and is narrated by Blake Pingleton and Sarah Kamal, whose voices you have heard on my other projects.
The first episode, The Pilot as it is fittingly titled, can be found here or on YouTube. It follows the pilot of the doomed plane as he fights to keep himself, his crew and his passengers alive. Episode Two, The Adulterer, will be available on the 5th of March here and the day after on YouTube. The following episodes will be released as premium content at first and made free at a later date.
This first season will have six episodes in total.
Ficsation
The last major update for now is about Ficsation. This new podcast goes live on the 7th of March, this Friday. Much like Stories Across Borders, this show is all about stories. However, the format is different and it’s a lot more casual. Each episode features a different guest, talking about a different piece of media that has had a major impact on them and left a lasting impression. Essentially, unlike the stricter analysis of SAB, Ficsation is a chance for my wonderful guests to tell us all about media they like and why they like it.
The first episode features Marv_Missy - streamer, co-author of Secrets in Slumber and frequent guest on SAB. She’ll be telling us all about the madness of Kingdom Hearts and attempting to convince me to give it a chance.
Brockton Bay Chronicles
Technically, this isn’t actually one of my projects. However, given my now long-running collaboration with BBC’s Keith and Andy, I think it definitely warrants a mention. For those who don’t know, The Brockton Bay Chronicles is a podcast in which Keith and Andy discuss Worm (one of my favourite stories) from the perspectives of a returning reader (Keith) and a first-timer (Andy).
I’ve appeared on a couple of their episodes now and I was invited back to be a part of their finale round table episode as well. That should be going up on YouTube and Spotify in the not-to-distant future. I had a blast being one of their guests for their final episode (and the other ones) and I think we got to have a lot of interesting discussions. So I’d recommend checking it out.
That’s all the big updates for now but, as always, keep an eye out. I’m always working on something.
