Behind Open Doors

A short poem written by Daniel that explores the fear of the unknown and our own negative expectations as well as the necessity of confronting them all in less than seventy words.

Behind Open Doors

There it is,
Groaning and creaking behind my door,
A nightmarish creation lurking beyond,
The summation of my fears.

Here I go,
Reaching for the handle of the portal,
My pulse quickening as I outstretch.
I have to see what I believe.

The door opens.
I peer into to depths of the dimension inside.
My eyes strain to see the horror of my expectations,
Yet only emptiness is before me.

It pays to be wrong.
